The Matrix Movies and Sim City

Just think about this. It is fun to entertain in your mind:

1. It is possible that a civilization could create a computer simulation which contains individuals with artificial intelligence.
2. Such a civilization would likely run many—say billions—of these simulations (just for fun; for research, etc.)
3. A simulated individual inside the simulation wouldn’t necessarily know that it’s inside a simulation—it’s just going about its daily business in what it considers to be the "real world."

Then the ultimate question is—if one accepts that theses 1, 2, and 3 are at least possible— which of the following is more likely?

a. We are the one civilization which develops AI simulations and happens not to be in one itself? Or,
b. We are one of the many (billions) of simulations that has run? (Remember point iii.)

In greater detail, this argument attempts to prove the trichotomy, that:
either
1. intelligent races will never reach a level of technology where they can run simulations of reality so detailed they can be mistaken for reality (or this is impossible in principle); or
2. races who do reach such a level do not tend to run such simulations; or
3. we are almost certainly living in such a simulation.

5 Months.

Abigail turned 5 months last week and this is what she is doing...

-She is cutting 2 teeth! The bottom two. They have just come through and are very sharp.
-She is sleeping from 8-7 but somedays she likes to wake mommy early.
-She loves her cereal and avocado. She eats like a champ...she can even keep her clothes on now!
-She LOVES her feet. She sucks on her big toe all the time.
-She enjoys sitting up and playing.
-She can roll over to her tummy or from her tummy and she is pushing up like crazy.
-She is all smiles. Seriously the happiest little girl in the world.
-She loves Ginger. She will pet her and grab at her fur and Ging doesn't seem to mind, she will come over and sit down by Aby (as if to say "pet me")!
-She won't be weighed until next month so I don't have any percentages but she is definitely growing. Her tummy is thin but her thighs are another story.
-We are working on "Dada" but nothing yet. She is constantly chattering with herself.
-She doesn't take a pacifier because she sucks her thumb. That will be a fun habit to break.
-She is perfect.

Swimming

Aby enjoys swimming. She likes to look at the water. She makes some seriously funny faces sometimes...









We had a small (us and one other couple) BBQ yesterday for Father's day. We grilled burgers and spent some time in the pool. It was so relaxing. I hope Stephen had a nice time!

I am super bummed that the crazy cool slideshow that I made on Stephen's Mac is too large to upload to blogger...or youtube...or anything really. SO here are a few pictures from our trip that you will all absolutely adore!

I can hardy believe it's true...

I can't possibly be 22!?! I had an amazing birthday thanks to my wonderful husband. Stephen arranged a very special evening for me on Thursday and a full day of fun on Friday. Here are a few pictures (that I didn't take) of all of the things that were included in celebrating my 22ND birthday.




When I came home from work Thursday night I found Abigail sleeping, the house covered in tea lights. These...
in the kitchen, as well as some fancy chocolates and a bottle of wine...
These in the bathroom...as well as a new loofah and bath salts.

On Friday morning we went straight here...
Afterwards we headed to the mall for some shopping.
Later in the evening we had our good friends Van and Rebbecca babysit (oh my) and we went out for Mexican food...I also got one of these...

After devouring all that Mexican goodness we headed downtown for a ride around town on one of these...



What a fun day! I am so blessed.

Pray for Benjamin

Over the weekend one of the youth from our church was involved in a serious car accident. He has several serious injuries that include a cracked sternum, several broken ribs, a laceration to his kidney, and severe damage to his spleen. I am writing this to ask that you would remember him and his family in your prayers this week as his Grandmother and cousin also sustained serious injuries and is great-aunt was killed in the accident. Please pray for these things...

-Peace for the family of his Aunt that was lost in the accident.
-A fast and painless, full recovery for Benjamin and his grandmother and cousin.
-Wisdom for the physicians that are treating them.
-Grace and peace for Phil and Linda (Ben's parents).
