Surprise Visit

Today we had a surprise phone call after church. Stephen has an Aunt and Uncle in Pennsylvania that made a trip to Kentucky to visit their son, his wife and their children who lives about 30 minutes from us. We met them in June at the family reunion but we didn't realize how close they are! We found out this morning that they attend the Lutheran church that is literally right across the street from out complex. Needless to say we met for lunch and had a wonderful visit! It was so nice to see some familiar faces and even better to find out how close we are to each other. We exchanged numbers and e-mail and definitely plan on getting together again very soon. Here is a picture of the group after lunch.

Our Tree

In our "backyard" we have a large tree. It is gorgeous. We love having it mostly because of the squirrels that play it all the time! This morning we woke up and were dumbfounded at what we saw!

How are we going to get them out?

Painting

We decided to finally paint our living room. I have been wanting paint for a while and we never had the time or extra money to get it done! We had a fun experience with a few bumps along the way! I have to mention that when we went to Home Depot the first time (yes you can assume that we made several trips)we forgot the pillow that the paint was intended to match! That will explain the color of the wall in a few of the pictures! We corrected to color for the second coat and love the outcome!

Fall in Kentucky.

The weather this time of year is amazing. As long as the sun is out its not too hott and not too cold. We dont need the heater or the AC. We love being outdoors and being able to take the dog out to the park. We made a visit this weekend to Joe Hubers farm and restuarant. We took a tractor ride out to pick our own pumkin and they had a fire with marshmallows and a huge corn maze. It is about 45 minutes from our house but a gorgeous drive. The rolling hills (or texas mountains as I call them) are great, and all of the leaves have turned to beautiful shades of red, orange and brown. We bought a few pumkins and had dinner. I went a little Martha Stewart on my hubby and we made the cutest monogram set. We took pictures all the way so that you could enjoy with us this amazing season.

A few funny things...

1. Last week Stephen and I went to the mall to pick out winter coats. While my husband played with some toys I stood in front of the escalator and said "hunny I'm getting on...REALLY I'm getting on" and then I got on. I waited for a few minutes at the bottom of the escalator and then went to the men's coats. I figured if he came down later he would just find me there. Nope. About 10 minutes later I hear "Nikki Vedro please return to the furniture section, Nikki Vedro please return to the furniture section". So, I started cracking up and went to the furniture section that I had NEVER been in. ( My husband looses me EVERY TIME we go to the grocery store or mall).

2. Many of you know that I am babysitting a 3 month old boy and a 3 year old girl. After I pick Reese up from "lunch bunch" at noon I put her down for her nap. She sleeps for 2-3 hours. Everyday when she wakes up from her nap she puts her face right next to her monitor and says something like "Nikki I need you" over and over and louder every time! Last week she woke up from her nap and instead of calling for me she said " I have to poop...I have to poop". It was hilarious. She must have said it 10 times because I was downstairs laughing hysterically!!

3. Not a very funny story but a GREAT story. I needed some new jeans so a bought a pair a few weeks ago. A size 6 not too bad but this week I decided to but another pair of the same jeans b/c I love them so much and yesterday I bought a 4. I love it.

That's all for now. Stephen and I are going with some friends to the zoo this Sat. and to a pumpkin farm on Sun. We should have some great pictures up next week.

My 1st camping trip.

Up until this weekend I had never been camping in a tent. For whatever reason my family had always gone in an RV or stayed in a cabin. My husband introduced me to "the tent". I honestly dont believe I had ever been in a tent at all or even really understood how it worked. I had to work until about 8 on Friday so we didn't get to the lake until 10 or so. We had to set up in the dark but we weren't too worried b/c we had practiced in the living room! Sleeping on the ground wasn't horrible but the weather was! We took every blanket we own and I was still freezing! It was in the low 40's on Friday night! We got up early the next morning and had pancakes and bacon and went for a long walk to the lake. Ginger loved our hike at first but that didn't last long. Clearly she is an inside dog. She was shivering most of the trip (even in her bed, under her blanket). We made burgers for dinner and of course smores and hot chocolate. Stephen was excited to build a fire but unfortunately there is a burn ban but all in all we had a great weekend. I can't wait to go back. It is only 30 minutes from our house and its a beautiful drive this time of year. The trees have turned and the rolling hills are gorgeous. Here are a few pictures!

Louisville Slugger Museum

We went to the Louisville Slugger Museum located downtown and discovered how they make bats. The bat making process is very interesting...

Afterwards we spent some time exploring downtown Louisville and just hanging out:

Creation Museum

We visited the Creation Museum and saw a vivid display of the science behind those who believe the earth was created in 6 literal days. They also had dinosaurs.

We have visitors!!!

My Mom and Sister came all the way from Texas to visit with us for a few days while I was on Fall break...or reading week as the seminary officially calls it. Needless to say, I didnt do too much reading.

We did however go to a wonderful restaurant called Lynn's Paradise Cafe

Here are some pictures highlighting our experience:

They had some really random objects which always equates to great picture opps with the vedro family:

Inside we discovered that they give every table a different set of toys so everyone can entertain them selves while they wait for their food. I have always thought that restaurants should do this sort of thing and I was so happy when I discovered my table had a toy truck! We also ended up snatching a bucket of animals from the table next to us:

We had such an enjoyable experience:
