Aby and Sofia...

Stephen and I spent the day with Aby and Sofia. They are so precious! We had a fun day playing with these girls. Make sure to check out the video at the bottom...it's classic!

Shhh...

While Stephen knows that I took this picture he does NOT know that I am posting it on the blog! He is playing the part of the priest in the Passion Play and he has to wear a TON of makeup! Haha! I love it! I will get some more pictures of his whole costume another night.

Aby in the Morning

Abigail is so happy in the morning. Whenever I get her up from her crib she is all smiles. I think she may laugh soon, she opens her mouth as wide as she can but no sound comes out (yet)!

She also gets out of her sleep positioner and I have no idea how she does it. Anytime I check on her she is right where I left her but every morning she is has managed to flip herself around!

If the video is too dark to see come back later. It should get brighter!

A long time coming

We have saved and saved and searched high and low looking for a new sofa. Our old sofa was very small and we never had adequate seating when we invited guests over. We also hated the color. We finally made a purchase that we are very happy with! We now have one nice piece of furniture in our home and we are very excited about it!

Picture Post

I know most of you only look at my blog for the pictures so I don't feel bad that I don't have time to write anything interesting this week.

Aby looked so cute for church this morning!

She will never smile for the camera. This silly lookin' face is as good as it gets!

Can you guess who dressed her???

She loves her bumbo we usually put her in it while we eat so she can watch us!

I just wanted to remind everyone that we still have Ginger. Poor thing gets no love!

He totally set this picture up!

She was touching her "beard".

Not me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This week I did not buy envelopes to mail my 2 month old daughters birth announcements. Nope, I sent those weeks ago!

I also did not beg my husband take me to dunkin doughnuts at 9:30 for a cup of decaf and a doughnut...and when they were closed I did not request that we drive half way across town to krispy kreme and we also did not decide that this would be a great idea to help get little lady to sleep. We would never put her in the car intentionally to put her to sleep!

I also did not make a list of several things that I want and try to think of ways to save money and buy them ( like food, gas and water, all the necessities). I am not that selfish!

I also did not pray that Aby was crying at the gym when I went to check on her so that I could get out of a workout! Not me, I love to exercise!

Random Pictures...

Aby in Daddy's office with a totally random basketball!

Getting ready for her bath!

Screamin like always!

Chillin in the bumbo(that also looks like a poopin face)!

Laying on her new tummy time mat( Thanks Aunt Valerie!).

Revolution Conference

This weekend we took a trip to Louisville with a few of our youth for a conference at the seminary. Unfortunately I didn't take a single picture of the speakers, the kids or any of the actual conference events. I also did not get to sit through an entire service because either Aby was crying or I was coughing! I did however get a super cute picture of Aby and daddy sleeping at the hotel. Here is all I will ever remember about this weekend...

Vaccinations

I have to disagree with most of you on this one. This is what I have found out about vaccines and this is what we have decided to do...

We do plan on giving Aby most of her vaccinations. Initially I planned to spread them out but after talking with my pediatrician I decided that it's not worth the time and energy because there really is no medical benefit. The reason I wanted to do so was because I thought that if Aby had a reaction we would know exactly what vaccine caused it and would be able to treat it more effectively. My pediatrician assured me that he has never had a patient have a reaction to any vaccine EVER! The reason being that he does a complete physical assessment on every patient before they ever receive a shot. In most cases when a reaction occurs it is because the child is already sick and that is why it is vital that your pediatrician asses your baby before administering any injections!

What we won't give her...
Aby will not be receiving her Rubella, Varicella and Hepatitis A vaccination. Why? Because we are pro-life. These vaccines currently contain tissue of aborted fetus' and I will not advocate the use of a vaccine that promotes the killing of unborn babies and I propose that you would not either. However Aby is not supposed to get these shots for a while and until that time comes I will pray that another options becomes available.

My pediatrician gave me several helpful articles for making this decision and in talking with him and doing research on my own I think that we have made the best decision for Aby. The most comforting thing to me is that I completely trust my pediatrician, I know that he is a christian man and a new dad. I know that he would not advise me to do something if he didn't think it was the absolute best for my daughter!

Dallas Blooms

The past 5 days

In the last five days Aby and I flew to Texas, said goodbye to a loved one, met her great-grandparents, visited all of her grandparents, played with her nephews, started smiling, picked a favorite thumb (she only sucks the left one), discovered tempuratures above 50, got a new sling (made by my wonderful grandmother), went to Dallas blooms and flew back home! What a week!

Cry Baby Cry Baby...

So much to say!

Our pediatrician recommended a book to us while we were pregnant called On Becomming Baby Wise. The idea is this; babies do not know when to sleep and when to be awake. You the parent have to make decisions about when they should eat, be awake and sleep. The book recommends putting the baby on a schedule. Feeding the baby every 2 1/2 -3 1/2 hours based on three things.

1. The clock. During the day I wake Aby up if it has been three and a half hours to eat, at night I let her sleep as long as she wants. I wake Aby every morning at the same time for her first feeding, so we start and finish our day about the same time. This allows me to know in advance about what time she will eat. For example. We wake everyday between 7:30-8am. On a 3 hour schedule Aby will eat again at about 10:30 and on Sundays we are just getting to church at that time so I know that I need to pump a bottle before we leave for church every week!

2. Aby's hunger cues. When Aby is hungry it is obvious for a couple reasons. She will suck on her hands and yell at them when they don't produce! She has a pretty specific hunger cry, and she will also root around like a spaz trying to latch onto anything that touches her cheeks or lips!

3. My good judgement. Based on these things (the clock and Aby's hunger cues) I can use my Oh so keen decision making skills to decide weather or not to feed her before the clock says so or let her sleep a little longer so that I can finish running some errands or writing this blog post! I am in charge, and I decide when to bend the rules!

The schedule that Aby is on also includes wake time and nap time.

Wake time. After Aby eats I intentionally wake her up. I read to her, sing to her, play with her on her belly, sit her in her bumbo, change her diapers, give her a bath, put funny bows on her head and take pictures...anything to keep her awake for about an hour and a half. After this comes naptime.

Nap time. Naptime lasts from an hour and a half to two hours. Sometimes Aby goes to sleep like a champ. Other times she cries for the entire time that she should be napping and I get her up from her crib to eat again without a minute of sleep and its wake time again. It sounds like a horrible thing to do but hear me out...

When I get Aby up I feed her for as long as she wants. I let her nurse until her little heart is content. I do not allow her to fall asleep on the breast but make sure that she gets a full feeding everytime. If you have ever breastfed a baby you know that this is though because they start eating and pass right out, and you also have to feed on both breasts wich can be a hassel on the moms part. I keep her awake so that I know she is sleepy when nap time rolls around and so that she knows that it is daytime and not night time! And before I put her to sleep I swaddle her, I rock her, I put on her sleepy music and shush her a little and just before she falls asleep I put her in her bed. Like I said sometimes she will look at me walk away and then I never hear a peep and other times she will scream bloody murder as soon as her head hits the sheets. But because I know that she is full, her diaper is clean, and she is sleepy I am comfortable letting her cry for a little while. After 10-15 minutes if she hasn't stopped I go back in (like the book says) and check her diaper, assess for hunger cues, (change her diaper, or feed her in needed) and swaddle her back, rock her again and try again. The second time I might wait longer but it is rare that she doesn't fall asleep before 15 minutes is up unless something actually is wrong and once it is corrected she goes right to sleep.

So that is what I think about crying it out. I do it, I hate it when she cries but she sleeps through the night!

I have also heard some people say the baby is feeling abandoned when they are crying and that they feel unloved and things of that nature and at first I was worried that Aby may resent me or feel abandoned and this is my comclusion. Aby knows she is loved because of the time I spend with her between naps. She knows that we love her because we feed her and bath her and smile and talk and sing to her, she knows that she is loved because we hold her and kiss her and tickle her, she knows that she is loved because we do these things when she is wide awake and not half asleep and fighting it with tears. That's not from any book its just my honest opinion.
